Massage therapy is an evidence-based intervention for the prevention and treatment of both physical and mental health problems. However, many health insurance plans do not include massage therapy benefits, Accepting Health Savings Account (HSA) cards is a practical way to make massage therapy services more accessible and more affordable as a preventive healthcare solution and pill-free treatment alternative for pain management, athletic performance, and general wellness.

Contrary to popular spa advertisements, most people consider massage therapy to be a form of healthcare, and the vast majority of people who get massages do so for health-related reasons. Even people who choose spa settings for massage therapy services are primarily interested in promoting their overall wellness and reducing stress. Very few people perceive massage therapy as purely a luxury or "pampering" service. When people pay out-of-pocket for massage therapy services, it's either because they have an existing clinical health problem or because they want to prevent a clinical health problem.

Tapping into your HSA is a great alternative to cash or credit for out-of-pocket costs of therapeutic massage and sports massage, especially if your insurance plan won’t cover massage therapy for your health and wellness needs.

Unfortunately, non-clinical establishments like hotels and day spas are not likely to accept your HSA card as payment for massage therapy services.

Massage therapists in private practice may be less likely than popular spa chains to invest in TV ads, but they're much more likely to accept health savings accounts among payment options.

If you plan to use your HSA to pay for massage therapy services, it’s worth the effort to research independent therapists and clinics who offer therapeutic or medical massage services. Always verify payment options before scheduling an appointment.

In the Greater New Orleans Area, you can use your HSA card for massage therapy services at Therapeutic Muscle Sculpting and Massage in Metairie, Our licensed massage therapists can help you with
injury prevention and recovery, pill-free pain management, and drug-free performance enhancement on and off the field.

Therapeutic Massage is not a luxury - it's healthcare.
